Osama may be dead, but we still have to stay in Afghanistan

I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure. -Mark Twain

Osama Bin Laden is dead. Killed, it appears, by the CIA. The question is what do we do next?

Many are saying it is time for us to get out of Afghanistan, but most people saying that were saying the same thing last week. But can we leave? What would happen if we do?

Afghanistan is far from stable and since Canada played a part in destabilizing the country when we invaded after the 9/11 attacks, I think it is fair to say that we have a moral obligation to stay until Afghanistan begins to resemble some from of stability. This wont be easy, and we will pay a high price, both financially and with the blood of our soldiers.

But that is the price a nation pays when it invades another.

UPDATE: The above quote is not from Mark Twain. Not sure who said it, but it wasn’t him. Still it accurately describes my mood, so I’ll keep it.
